honors program prospective students

The College of Ocean and Fishery Sciences Honors Program offers outstanding students a course of study designed to provide intellectual challenges in a stimulating learning atmosphere drawing on the resources of a large, diversified university. Undergraduates who are majors in the School of Aquatic & Fishery Sciences and/or the School of Oceanography may apply for Honors status. COFS students have two options for pursuing Honors at the University of Washington:

A four-year program combining an Honors core combined with the departmental requirements for the degree. Students completing these requirements become candidates for the degree “With College Honors.”

A two-year program consisting of departmental requirements. Students completing these requirements become candidates for the degree “With Distinction.”

For more information regarding admissions and requirements of the two options, please click on the links above.

COFS Natural Science Honors Courses

All University Honors students need to do a minimum of three natural science honors courses. The College of Ocean and Fishery Sciences offers a number of courses which are open to all UW and COFS Honors students, many which are focused in the area of marine biology.  Courses are either offered as an honors course/section or students may elect to make any course an honors course by negotiating honors credit with the instructor through the Ad Hoc Process : http://depts.washington.edu/uwhonors/faculty/adhoc.pdf.

Fish/Ocean/Biology 250: Marine Biology (Honors Section)
