Admission to COFS College Honors

This two-year program is designed for undergraduates who decide later in their academic career that they would like to pursue Honors. It is especially appropriate for transfer students, but may also be pursued by students who entered as freshmen to the UW. Students in this option are eligible to complete their degree “With Distinction.”

To become a COFS College Honors student, students need to:

  • Be a declared an Aquatic & Fishery Sciences (SAFS) or Oceanography major
  • Have a 3.3 cumulative GPA (either from the UW or another university or college) based on a minimum of 25 undergraduate credits
  • Apply for status as a COFS College Honors Student by submitting a nomination form (see following for form link)

The information below applies specifically to students majoring in Oceanography or Aquatic & Fishery Sciences. Both majors are “open admission” degree programs, so if you know you would like to declare your major in one of the two Schools, you may do so at any time—as long as your GPA is above 2.0—by contacting the adviser in the major you’d like to declare. It is recommended that you do so as soon as possible.



COFS College Honors Requirements

COFS College Honors students complete both the general education requirements and degree requirements just like all students in their declared majors, but also complete the specific requirements for COFS College Honors.

To graduate with COFS College Honors, students need to:

  • Graduate with a UW GPA of 3.3
  • Graduate with a COFS GPA specific to your department
    • 3.4—Oceanography
    • 3.5—Aquatic and Fishery Sciences
  • Complete the degree requirements for Ocean or SAFS Major
  • Complete the COFS College Honors requirements outlined below:
